TRB rapped for recruitment flaws
Committee set up on orders of minister KA Sengottaiyan to look into the discrepancies
Chennai
Barely seven months after unearthing a major scam in the recruitment of polytechnic teachers, Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) was once again pulled up for alleged discrepancies in the special teacher’s recruitment process.
This time, there was not only a mismatch in the tentative and provisional list released by TRB but the board also allegedly denied to include the deserving candidates.
TRB, for the first time, conducted exams in September, 2017 to fill up 1,325 vacant posts in special teacher’s category such as drawing, sewing, music and physical training. Over 30,000 candidates appeared for the exams, which was conducted across the State.
The results were published in September, this year, and subsequently TRB released a tentative list. However, when TRB released its provisional list soon after, it was found that several discrepancies were identified while comparing both lists.
The tentative list shows that one female candidate under MBC category was listed as a SC canditate in the provisional list.
Another major issue surfaced after a few Tamil medium candidates were not included in the list, though they is a 20 per cent reservation quota for Tamil medium applicants.
T Vanitha, who appeared for sewing higher grade exam said that though she secured 63 per cent in the TRB exams, her name did not appear in the provisional list. However, several candidates, who secured between 55 and 59 were listed.
A senior official from TRB, seeking anonymity, said that Tamil medium candidates may have failed to produce their Tamil medium certificate issued by the government.
Contradicting to what the official said, the government, in its order, said that there was no medium of instruction for drawing and sewing higher grade examinations.
According to Amutha, more than 160 Tamil medium candidates were not selected despite scoring well. They have reportedly filed petitions in the Madras High Court. A source from the Education Department said that Minister KA Sengottaiyan has formed a committee to look into the issue.
