After the news of teachers’ agitation reached the top officials of the district, Tiruvannamalai CEO V Jayakumar ordered an internal inquiry by the Polur DEO, on Thursday.
According to sources, Anitha, one of the teachers of the school, caught a Class 12 boy, who hailed from Padapanjamarathur a hill hamlet, using a mobile phone to copy answers during the ongoing monthly tests. The boy later approached the teacher and asked to give back his phone. As Anitha refused, the boy got infuriated and assaulted the teacher in the classroom, before escaping from the spot. Anitha, who suffered an injury in the ear in the assault, was rushed to a nearby by PHC.
Later, the boy’s father along with some senior residents of his village, rushed to the school and asked Anitha not to lodge a complaint against his son. Further, he requested the school authorities not to initiate action against his son. Though no complaint was lodged, all the teachers of the school are on a ‘monthly test boycott’ protest demanding security and to transfer the boy to another school. When information about the protest by teachers reached Tiruvannamalai CEO V Jayakumar, he ordered an inquiry by the Polur DEO.
