    The State government is taking all steps to start LKG and UKG classes for the 52,400 children attending anganwadis across the state, said School Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan on Sunday.

    The minister distributed certificates and prizes to the heads of 59 government and government aided high and higher secondary schools that achieved cent per cent results this year, at a function hosted by VIT University. He said, the proposed move of the government was for the parents of anganwadi children, who yearned for their children to speak in English. Arrangements have been made to teach them basic English


    Sengottaiyan also added that the government was taking steps to provide skill training to all students in the final class of their school education in an effort to make them employable.


    Referring to the coaching centers offered by the State for the NEET exams, he said, these classes have resulted in nearly 1,000 students joining the MBBS course.


    Referring to VIT Chancellor G Viswanathan’s plea that the Central and State governments should consult the educational institutions while taking key decisions, Sengottaiyan said that he would soon hold a meeting with the representatives of the education institutions after getting approval from the Chief Minister.


    He also added that 3,000 smart classrooms, including internet facility for Classes between 9 to 12, would be provided for government schools before the yearend.


    VIT Chancellor Viswanathan said that the number of government institutions achieving cent per cent results has increased to 87 per cent from the previous year’s 83 per cent. The heads of 59 government and government aided institutions were given cash prizes and certificates by the minister. Those participated include Labour Minister Nilofer Kafeel, Collector SA Raman and VIT vice president GV Selvam.
