Move to relocate new bus stand in Pernambut draws flak
The Pernambut bus stand retrieval committee, headed by former IAS officer P Sivakami, has chalked out a series of agitations to ensure that the bus stand in Pernambut is not relocated to a site, away from the town.

Talking to DT Next, she said, “Though locals are willing to give the required 2 acres within the town limits for the new bus stand, office-bearers of local units of AIADMK and DMK want the bus stand to be shifted nearly 3 km away from the town which is against the interests and convenience of the residents.”
The committee has decided to submit a petition to Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan to drop the move to shift the bus stand to a new location away from the town. Also, the petition will seek permission to stage an agitation on the same issue in Chennai. “The date for the agitation will be announced shortly,” Sivakami said. If moved away from town, it would affect nearly 3,000 students from 50 surrounding villages who visit Pernambut every day for different purposes. “Farmers from other areas will also be forced to spend more on transportation to move their produce from the bus stand to shops in the town,” Sivakami added.
The meeting was attended by members of the Congress, BJP, DMK, the local Towheed Jamaat and local social activists.
