“Thursday’s low pressure area over Andaman sea and adjoining Malay Peninsula now lies over central parts of Andaman Sea. It is very likely to become more marked during the next 24 hours. It is expected to move west-northwest wards, concentrate into a depression during subsequent 24 hours and into a cyclonic storm thereafter,” Deputy Director General of Meteorology, N Puviarasan, said on Friday.
“Upcoming low gives hopes of rains for north Tamil Nadu including Chennai around mid-November. The northeast monsoon has been limited to two spells in north TN belt so far, which could change by mid-November. The low-pressure is expected to become cyclone and then move towards TN coast around November 15,” said popular weather blogger Pradeep John.
Sirkali in Nagapattinam recorded maximum rainfall (7 cm), followed by Nanilam in Tiruvarur (5 cm) during the last 24 hours. “Heavy rain is likely at isolated places over south TN during the next 24 hours,” the met official said.
Fishermen were warned not to venture into sea due to squally weather that is expected to render sea condition to be rough to very rough. On the city weather, Puviarasan said the sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy, with possibility of light rain in some areas.
