Swine flu, dengue claim five in Namakkal, Erode
Swine flu and dengue have claimed lives of five persons including a 14-year-old girl despite treatment at Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) in the last two days.

Of them, three persons succumbed to swine flu, while two others died of dengue in the district. Subha Sri (14), daughter of Ramakrishnan from Pollachi was down with severe fever and was admitted in CMCH, few days ago. As the girl was diagnosed with swine flu, she was treated at the special ward. However, Subha Sri died without responding to treatment on Wednesday.
In another incident, Kathirvel (32), from Thondamuthur was hospitalised for fever and was later found to be affected by swine flu. He also passed away on Wednesday.
Similarly, Chandrasekar (56), teacher at a government school in Ooty, was admitted in a private hospital with a severe fever. He was diagnosed with swine flu and was under critical care in the hospital, yet he died on Tuesday night.
Two others succumbed to dengue at CMCH. Pothiraj (57), from Samanaickenpalayam in Mettupalayam was admitted at CMCH with high fever. A blood test revealed that Pothiraj was suffering from dengue and was treated in the special ward, however, he died on Wednesday.
Similarly, Rajkumar (39), native of Salem had fever, few days ago and took treatment at a hospital in his neighbourhood. “He did not show any signs of recovery and his condition turned for worse. Rajkumar was then shifted to CMCH, where he was diagnosed with swine flu. Despite treatment, he died on Tuesday,” said a CMCH staff, preferring anonymity.
CMCH sources said that more than 30 persons have died of swine flu, dengue and other viral flu’s at CMCH and private hospitals just in the last two months, in Coimbatore.
Currently, a total of 84 persons including nine persons for swine flu, four persons with dengue and 71 persons with viral fevers are undergoing treatment at CMCH. Many others were also said to be undergoing treatment in private hospitals.
