Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder-president Kamal Haasan on Wednesday said the prospects are looking good for his party in the bypolls for 20 vacant assembly constituencies in the State.

Reiterating that his party is ready to face the bypolls, Kamal, who turned 64, said more than 80 per cent works in appointing party functionaries for election-related tasks was over. “The process is still going on,” he added.
The actor-turned-politician, who had recently toured various places across Tamil Nadu as a part of his “journey with people” mission, however, indicated that an official decision on contesting the polls would be taken only after the Election Commission’s announcement.
Dismissing allegations that he is a mouth organ of the BJP, Kamal said: “I am not the mouth organ of any party. I will always remain a people’s tool.” Stating that people need healthy politics free from corruption, Kamal said his party’s aim is to ensure that.
Claiming that the people of Tamil Nadu desire a political change in the State, he said all government departments will be set right once corruption is eradicated. To a question, Kamal said as far as his party is concerned, “we are aware that its journey is long. But we are travelling beyond the expected speed”.
Earlier, several MNM party workers greeted Kamal on his birthday. Various political leaders, including DMK president M K Stalin and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee, also greeted him.
