Fake currency racket busted in Virudhunagar, Rs 36 lakh seized, six held

Fake currency notes to a sum of Rs 36,33,950 were seized besides, two colour printers and accessories used for printing fake currency notes were also recovered. The police found counterfeit notes in denominations of Rs 50, Rs 200, Rs 500 and Rs 2,000.

Based on a complaint, S Gopinath (26) of Sevalpatti, Virudhunagar, who had been accused of circulating fake Indian currency of Rs 2,000, was arrested.

According to Virudhunagar Superintendent of Police M Rajarajan, “A platform shop vendor M Abdul Kadhar (50) of Seethakathi street, Virudhunagar, while transacting, grew suspicious on Gopinath and lodged a complaint against him with Virudhunagar West police. Later, police filed a case.”

Counterfeit notes of Rs 3,200 was seized from the accused and based on his confession, his co-accused G Surya (27) of Virudhunagar was arrested. After investigating the duo, two other accomplices, who went were hiding were arrested, on Wednesday.

Further investigations revealed that Elango was the prime accused and the counterfeit notes were printed in his house at Thuvariman. Later it was learnt that he indulged in fake currency trafficking to Virudhunagar.
