Tiruvannamalai
While he was heading for a meeting, District Collector KS Kandasamy saw eight Irula families living on the margins of the road. He immediately called the deputy director (Medical Services), Cheyyar, and directed him to conduct a thorough health check-up of the families. When it was found that the families have been living on river channel poromboke land, Kandasamy directed officials to find an alternate site to relocate them. Revenue officials not only identified a site in the same area, but also assured the beneficiaries that they would soon be given pattas for the land they were provided.
On November 2, the eight families met the collector at his chamber and received pattas in person. Kandasamy also ordered that houses be constructed for them in the new location for which work has started.
