According to Mugilan, the recently transferred Manachanallur tahsildar Renuka has been freely allowing the sand mafia to dredge sand. She has been mining river sand at Madhavaperumalkoil, Manpidimangalam in Kollidam river bed with JCB which is totally banned in the said area. The activists have submitted a series of complaints with proof to initiate action against her. He also alleged that Renuka is not only mining sand but also collecting bribe from the sand miners.
Mugilan pointed out that on October 11, when the public and the farmers caught Renuka red-handed while she was helping the mafia to mine sand by overseeing the operations she threatened the public and the farmers. She has been taking sand for her new house under construction during night hours, he added.
With solid proof, we have submitted a petition seeking action against her. They appealed to detain her under the Goondas Act as she has been involved in sand mining ever since she has been deputed in Manachanallur.
Demanding action, the group staged a protest in the Collectorate premises on Friday.Â
