Bronze icon, kalasam stolen from Ganapathy temple in Tiruvaiyaru
A bronze icon and the kalasam of a temple in Tiruvaiyaru were stolen in the wee hours of Tuesday and the police secured four juveniles on charges of the offence.

It is said, the Raja Ganapathy Temple at Sri Ram Nagar, Tiruvaiyaru, was constructed 12 years ago, preparations are on for the consecration of the temple. Following this the kalasam (pinnacle) of the temple and the bronze icon used to be taken around during festivals were kept at the sanctum of the temple. On Monday night the priest locked the temple and on Tuesday morning the people in the area found the door of the temple broken. When the priest reached the temple, he found the bronze icon of Vinayakar measuring around three feet in height and two feet in width and the copper kalasam were missing. It is said the miscreants also tried to break open the hundi of the temple and failed in their attempt. The Tiruvaiyaru police registered a case and investigations were on.
Four juveniles held at Vallam Meanwhile, the Vallam police on Monday detained four juveniles aged between 10-15 years accusing them of stealing a kalasam, panchaloga pooja articles and a FM radio from a road side temple at Vallam. The four juveniles were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) and were released on bail.
