Talking to mediapersons at the airport here, Thirunavukkarasar said: “The DMK and the Congress will contest in the seats we had contested earlier if byelections are held. Other issues would be discussed between the leaders of the two parties. The alliance with the DMK will continue.”
Describing as faulty the deferment of Tiruparankundram and Tiruvarur bypolls, the TNCC chief also said the election date for the two seats should have been announced along with the five poll-bound states.
Remarking that elections to 18 seats could be held only if an appeal petition is not filed in the case, Thirunavukkarasar said the people of Tamil Nadu have started to think that it would be good to have elections in the state.
Elections would only help understand people’s opinion of the government, the TNCC chief added, skirting queries related to the ongoing political crisis in Sri Lanka.
The TNCC president deemed it fit for AICC leaders to comment on the ongoing political turmoil in Colombo.
