    North East monsoon may set in on November 1

    After repeated false starts, the weathermen here are finally placing their hopes on the northeast monsoon commencing on November 1.

    According to meteorological department officials, favorable condition for the commencement of the monsoon was prevailing over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, and adjoining areas of south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalseema, south interior Karnataka and Kerala on November 1.

    “The cyclonic circulation over west central Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood persists. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours,” said an official from the Regional Meteorological Department (RMD) in Chennai.

    For the next 24 hours, the department has predicted that light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely to occur at isolated places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The sky condition in the city will be cloudy and light rain is likely to occur in some areas, officials added. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 32 degree Celsius and 25 degree Celsius respectively.

    Overall in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, the rainfall recorded between October 1 and 29 was 16 cm.
