DMK in damage control mode after Rajini barb

The DMK seems to have got into damage control mode a day after it took a swing at actor-politician Rajinikanth. An influential member of DMK president MK Stalin’s family had attempted to placate the actor the same day DMK party organ Murasoli had published an elaborate article “Who is the black sheep?”hitting out at Rajinikanth on Friday, first since the superstar announced his political plunge.

Sources said the member of Stalin’s family had called Rajinikanth over phone early Friday afternoon. However, the actor had cold shouldered the DMK top brass or rather his offer of peace and refused to talk to the VIP caller, understandably, due to the choice of language and overdose of sarcasm in the article.

The blow from Murasoli was so hard that Rajini had issued a statement reiterating his trust in fans within a few hours after the DMK mouthpiece hit the stands. Grapevine has it that the phone call has the sanction of Stalin who was prodded by a few second rung leaders close to Rajini. The actor was understood to have shared his anguish with his friends in the DMK.

Though Murasoli had launched an all-out assault of Rajini only this week, the principal opposition party has been making veiled attacks on the actor for a while. The DMK had given the go ahead to its platform speakers to target the actor-politician in their public speeches. Pertinently, Stalin has only been subtle in his critique of Rajini who had even shared dais with Stalin when Kollywood had unveiled the portrait of former DMK president M Karunanidhi. Unsurprisingly, the PR overdrive of DMK after the Murasoli article has not gone well with even a few DMK seniors who felt that the high command should have avoided the placating effort once the article was out.
