Following the demise of six-year-old Rithish Veera from Chinna Edapalayam and three-year-old Akshita from Adigathur, of suspected dengue at the Tiruvallur Government Hospital on Thursday night, fear among the public has been on the rise.

The number of hospitalisations have increased to 300 at the Government Hospital. “While Rithish was suffering from fever, doctors at Tiruvallur GH had referred him to RGGGH in Chennai but he died on the way. Akshita succumbed when she was moved to Tiruvallur GH from a private hospital,” said an official.

In Coimbatore, three people, including two children, who were admitted to the Coimbatore Government Hospital died on Thursday - a two-month-old baby from Tharapuram, Ramamurthi (50) of Puliyampatti and Tarun (1) of Pollachi. The Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan said 20,000 prevention pills are in stock to avoid the spread of the disease.
