Swine flu claims labourer, Class 11 student
A 42-year-old construction labourer from Pollachi died of swine flu, while mysterious fever claimed the life of a Class 11 student in Krishnagiri district.

 Mahendran from Somandurai Sithur, in Pollachi, was down with severe fever for the past ten days. He thought it to be a normal cold and abstained from taking any treatment. However, his condition worsened critically and was taken to Pollachi Government Hospital by family members.
He was then referred to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital. While reaching the hospital on Tuesday night, the condition of Mahendran turned worse and he died even before doctors could begin treatment.
Following this, the health department officials screened villagers of Somandurai Sithur village for symptoms of swine flu. Mosquito control measures were taken up at the village to prevent spread of the virus.
In another instance, a 16-year-old girl from Sidhandapuram, in Denkanikottai, in Krishnagiri district, died of mysterious fever, on Wednesday. Saranya, daughter of Vediappan was studying in Class 11 at Anjetty Government Higher Secondary School was suffering from severe cold and fever for the past one week.
She was admitted Anjeety Government Hospital and was shifted to Pennagaram Government Hospital. However, she died without responding to treatment. Doctors said they are yet to ascertain the cause of her death.
