According to sources, Nazrudeen from Kumbakonam was admitted in a hospital with severe fever last week. As he had continuous fever and symptoms of H1N1, Nazrudeen was referred to a private hospital in Tiruchy on Monday. There, he was found to have the H1N1 infection. Failing to respond to intensive care, Nazrudeen succumbed.
Dr Subramani, Deputy Director of Health Services said, “The patient was diagnosed with early stage H1N1 viral infection (swine flu). Despite the intensive care, the patient died. Earlier, the patient was treated in a private hospital in Kumbakonam and was later referred to a hospital in Tiruchy.” He added that including the current one, about two cases were reported in Tiruchy.
A woman called N Saratha from Lalgudi was admitted in the Tiruchy GH last week with symptoms of H1N1. After she was diagnosed with the early stage disease, her health status is currently stable following treatment. She is expected to be discharged this week.
Subramani added that special campaigns are being undertaken across the district for preventing any outbreak. More than 19 people died due to H1N1 infection in Tiruchy last year.
