Teacher held under POCSO Act, 7 arrested
On Tuesday, 10 persons were secured in connection with the assault of a teacher in Government Higher Secondary School, at Melnachipatti near Chengam, while school students blocked the road in support of the assaulted teacher.

Kannan (46), Math teacher, was assaulted by a group for sexually harassing a Class 10 student, on Monday. Police arrested him under the POCSO Act, while more than 100 students were supporting him and demanding his release. Students abstained from their classes, blocked the Melnachipattu-Kannakurukkai road, on Tuesday.
Meanwhile based on a complaint from the school’s PTA (Parents Teachers Association) the Pachal police called up the victim’s parents for an inquiry. According to the sources, they informed the police that they had no connection with the group that assaulted the teacher on Monday.
Police investigation revealed that those who assaulted the teacher were from the nearby Vadamathur village. Following which, police initially arrested 7 persons. However, more arrests are expected, police added.
Following the officials intervening and promising justice for the assaulted teacher, students aborted the road roko.
