Namesake halwa gives #MeToo a sweet touch

While men have been mostly at the receiving end of the #MeToo campaign across the country, in an unlikely development, a halwa manufacturer from Tirunelveli running a company called “Me Too Snacks” has benefited from it as the snacks branded ‘Me Too” are in demand after the movement gained popularity

‘Me Too Snacks’ is a popular snacks company in Tirunelveli and its products are seen even in Chennai supermarkets.

Its ‘Me Too halwa’ has attained unlikely fame for its name as ‘giving halwa’ in Tamil means deceiving people with fake promises, which is commonly perceived as the theme in the #MeToo campaign.

The company owners are now happy as the brand name has become popular on social media after it was linked with the #MeToo campaign, though in a lighter vein. One of the company’s directors, Mohideen Risvi, told DT Next, “I am not sure whether to use the #MeToo campaign to promote the product as there is apprehension that it could backfire, but we are happy that our product is being widely shared on socialmedia and has become popular due to the campaign.”

‘Me Too Snacks’ was established four years ago and as a part of its expansion, ‘Me Too Halwa’ was launched about two-and-a-half-years ago.
