Sadaya Vizha commences in Thanjavur
Sadaya Vizha, the birth anniversary celebrations of King Raja Raja Chola I, who built the Big Temple, commenced with the traditional mangala isai in Thanjavur on Friday.

District collector A Annadurai, who inaugurated the celebrations, praised the Chola king for giving the Big Temple to the world.Seminars on various topics and cultural programmes were organised as part of the festival on Friday.Â
The District Collector, political leaders and functionaries of various Tamil outfits paid their tribute by garlanding the statue of Raja Raja Chola I.Â
In view of the celebrations, the statue was decorated with flowers and illuminated. Thirumurai Pannisai and Thirumurai isayarangam were performed.Â
Abishekam with 48 variety of articles was performed for the statue of Peruvudayar and Peria Nayagi. Sadaya Vizha president Thirugnanam and other organising team staff were present.Â
Various art and cultural events were also organised during the evening hours.Â
A large number of people from nearby places gathered at the temple to participate in the event.Â
Police have made elaborate security arrangements to maintain law and order. On Saturday, the statue of Raja Raja Chola I would be taken on a procession along the streets around 7.30 am.
