Intel flags plan to bump off Puzhal prison inspector
Following a series of measures taken by prison authorities to discipline Puzhal jail inmates after media reports in September about the lavish lifestyle of certain prisoners inside the prison, a group of them led by ‘Police’ Fakhruddin, an extremist, allegedly planned to eliminate the vigilance inspector, intelligence reports said.

The prisoners’ group believed that recent raids, transfers of jail staff and large seizures of contraband ‘enjoyed’ by the inmates, were a result of reports on illegal activities filed by the vigilance inspector.
Fakhruddin was running an illegal mess inside the prison and supplying specially cooked food for select inmates at a premium rate earning lakhs of rupees. It is also suspected that Fakhruddin had a close nexus with certain anti-social elements as well as a prisoner named Ayyappan working in the jail office and had been executing his nefarious activities outside the prison to earn huge sums of money. The report suggested that Ayyappan used to supply small weapons and mobile phones to Fakhruddin and he was the link between the anti-social elements and Fakhruddin.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, in yet another raid and seizure at the Puzhal jail, officials recovered 50 bags of rice, 1 kg cardamom, 7 kg garlic, biriyani vessels among other items from the possession of the prisoners.
The raids also resulted in the seizure of more than 10 kg of milk powder, four idli-making and two puttu-making vessels, four kadaais, five kitchen knives, 20 litres of oil, 3 kg ginger, half a kg cloves, 1 kg cashew nuts, 3 kg tea and 5 kg masala powder. Sources said of the 50 bags of rice seized, 20 were filled with basmati rice, perhaps meant for making biriyani.
