Vijay welcome to join Maiam, says Kamal Haasan
Actor-politician Kamal Haasan has welcomed fellow actor Vijay’s political ambitions and said there will be a place for him in his Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), if the latter chose to join him.

Kamal was speaking at a public question-and-answer session organised by Thanthi TV during his visit to Salem.
In response to actor Vijay’s speech from two weeks ago where he had hinted at a desire to foray into politics, Kamal said he would be glad to see Vijay step into the field.
He added that though he and Vijay were in touch, he would like to find out the motivation behind Vijay’s desire to join politics. He added that he’d like to understand if anger at the state of affairs was a cause. Kamal said if Vijay chose to join him, there is room for him in the MNM party hierarchy.
Speaking at various public engagements over the course of his tour, the 63-year-old also touched on other issues such as the government’s inaction on its poll promise of closing liquor shops in the State.
He chided the State government saying that people were able to access liquor more easily than drinking water.
Kamal said he has a clean track record and is fighting to unseat the existing powers in the State and convert the NOTA votes.
He accused the governments at the Centre and State of hiking the prices of essential items like petrol and then using taxpayer money for sops for voters. He warned people to be wary of the various ways of corruption.
