According to a complaint by his wife Vasanthi at Ennore police station, Prabhu had gone missing from their house on Wednesday.
On Thursday morning, police received an information that a man was hit by a train and his body was found near the railway track in J J Nagar in Ennore. When they recovered the body, they identified it as Prabhu. The body was sent to the Stanley Government Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Though it looked like an accident, the Ennore police found that there were stab marks on his body and his throat slit, and registered a murder case. After inquiry, the police arrested Mohammed Rafiq (22) from Kodungaiyur, who had allegedly tried to kill Prabhu earlier over previous enmity.
“We believe that the murder was carried out by a group of men. We have arrested Rafiq, and are on the lookout for other gang members,” police said.
