According to officials, the exhibition is a step towards achieving better solid waste management, besides enabling the residents to prioritise domestic recycling methods instead of depending on the civic body.
Experts in waste recycling industry from various parts of the country set up stalls in the exhibition. The expo saw a wide range of simple and electricity-less recycling mechanisms to convert kitchen waste into manure on display.
Solid waste management experts explained various methods such as bucket composting, pot composting and bin composting to the visitors. They were encouraged to process waste on their own and utilise the manure for their gardens.
Besides the waste recycling products, the stalls also exhibited terrace gardening kits to utilise the manure produced through recycling for growing vegetables at home.Â
Postmaster General Ambesh Upmanyu was the chief guest at the event. He urged the people to support the efforts of the civic body, stating that public support was vital for efficient waste management.Â
Corporation Commissioner N Ravichandran said the civic body has been initiating a series of programmes to maintain the clean city tag and would continue to vie for the top place in the Swachh Survekshan survey.
