Extreme heavy rainfall warning for Tamil Nadu withdrawn

Deputy Director General of Meteorology S Balachandran, said, “The cyclonic circulation over South Coastal TN and its neighbourhood has become less marked.”

He added, “The low-pressure area over Southeast Arabian sea has turned into a well-marked system over Southeast and adjoining East-Central Arabian Sea. It may concentrate into a depression and move northwestwards in 24 hours. It could also intensify into a cyclonic storm and move towards Oman coast.”

In the past 24 hours, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry received moderate rainfall at majority of places and heavy rainfall at a few places. Karaikal recorded 12 cm rainfall and Villupuram recorded 9 cm of rainfall.

On Friday, weathermen had already announced the onset of northeast monsoon over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, Kerala, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh around October 8. This comes at a time when the southwest monsoon has further withdrawn from Telangana, most parts of coastal AP and parts of Rayalaseema and Karnataka.
