EPS meets Governor amid AMMK merger talk
With the State seemingly caught in political turbulence amid talks of a merger between the ruling AIADMK and AMMK, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami met Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Friday.
Chennai
“As the judgment on the 18 MLAs case is expected either on Monday or Wednesday, the government might be keen to ensure that the numbers are on their side. To make sure that the state government does not face problems from rebel MLAs, Palaniswami met the Governor and held discussions on the government’s safety,” a sources close to Palaniswami said.
If the source is to be believed, the BJP-led Central government is trying to merge Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) with the AIADMK before the Tirupparankundram by poll and so an emergency meeting has been setup between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Palaniswami in Delhi on Monday.
The source further said that earlier in the day, Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan met Palaniswami at his residence and discussed political developments and confirmed the meeting with Modi. “In the presence of Ponnar, the meeting with Modi and Purohit was confirmed by Palaniswami,” he added.
