Red alert not for entire TN, only some places
The State government issued a red alert with heavy to extremely heavy showers likely at isolated places across Tamil Nadu on October 7, following the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) prediction of excessive rainfall in the southern State.

In a circular, the IMD stated that heavy to very heavy rain accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds were likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Lakshadweep for the next 48 hours.
The weather bulletin also stated that heavy rainfall would occur over coastal and interior Karnataka and Andaman and Nicobar Islands from October 7 and continue for the next day.
“A low-pressure area is expected to form over Southeast Arabian sea by Friday (Oct 5). It is very likely to concentrate into a depression during the subsequent 36 hours and move Northwestwards. It may also intensify into a cyclonic storm and move towards Oman coast,” said S Balachandran, the deputy general of Meteorology.
Chennai, on Thursday, received rainfall in the last 24 hours with some parts receiving heavy showers, he added. The weatherman has also issued a special advisory to fishermen, advising them to return to shores before Friday.
