Spat with Bedi: MLA raises privilege issue with Speaker
AIADMK MLA A Anbazhagan on Wednesday approached the Puducherry Assembly Speaker alleging breach of his privilege as a legislator by Lt Governor Kiran Bedi, a day after she asked him to cut short his speech at a government function.

In his complaint submitted to the Speaker, Anbazhagan said that while he was speaking at a function to declare the Union Territory as Open Defecation Free (ODF) on Tuesday, the Lt Governor came and asked him to stop his speech.
To this, Anbazhagan requested Bedi to resume her seat, as she holds the position of the administrator of the Union Territory, while he is presently a member of the Legislative Assembly, and they were being watched by the public.
However, she immediately ordered to switch off his mike and he could not continue his speech.
Later, Bedi asked him to leave when he tried to resume his seat, to which he stated that he represented the people and the Lt Governor did not possess the right to ask him to go out.
“Feeling humiliated, I went out,” said Anbazhagan, adding that a lot of people had witnessed the incident.
He further added that this was a deliberate attempt to malign his reputation and hence, action should be initiated against the Lt Governor, under the Legislative Assembly Privileges Act.
The other three AIADMK legislators, Bhaskar, Vayyapuri Manikandan and Asana, accompanied Anbazhagan to meet the Speaker.
CPI slams Lt Governor
Meanwhile, CPI leader R Viswanathan too condemned Bedi for the episode, while terming it as a “big insult.”
