Govt to set up 3,000 smart classes by December: Sengottaiyan
School Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan on Wednesday said steps have been taken to set up more than 3,000 smart classes in government schools by December.

Inaugurating a smart class at Presidency School in Egmore, Sengottaiyan said the smart class, which will be mostly used for primary and middle school students, was equipped with a white smart board, which can also be used as a screen to view video clippings and slideshows. The Minister said online resources such as Wi-Fi connection, laptop/ desktop for teachers, overhead projector will also be available in the class. He said the government was taking steps to set up the remaining smart classes by the year-end.
Sengottaiyan also unveiled the new uniforms for students studying from Classes 1 to 8 in government and aided schools across the State. He said similar to this year, the students will receive four sets of uniforms from the next academic year as well.
He said the number of sets of uniforms has increased from one to two in 2011-12 and to four from 2012-13 onwards. “In the academic year 2017-18, 41.19 lakh students benefited from this scheme,” he said adding, “A sum of Rs 414.30 crore has been allocated for the year 2018-19 for the scheme.”
