Kamal was present at Kaliyampoondi village in Kancheepuram district where he had promised to attend the gram sabha on August 15, but was unable to do so. Thereafter, he had assured the people of his presence at the subsequent session that took place on Tuesday.

Kamal joined the residents of the village for the sabha at 10 am, observed the proceedings and expressed his happiness at the conduct of the gram sabha.

Kamal reiterated that it was vital for people to exercise their democratic rights and express their opinions through the platforms that are available. He said that such voicing of their views could prevent the central and the state governments from imposing projects on people such as the hydrocarbon project. Further, he jokingly said that he could send a dictionary to AIADMK Minister Jayakumar, who had accused him of being merely verbose.

“Even Gandhi completed his first innings in South Africa and came to India. It doesn’t matter where one comes from, but what matters is what one is going to do,” Kamal added.

At Kottanatham village in Dindigal district, the gram sabha was attended by Makkal Needhi Maiam party state executive committee member Bharathi Krishnakumar.

Since the turnout was poor due to the lack of awareness among the villagers, the locals requested that the gram sabha should be postponed to a later date. After protests by villagers, the gram sabha was postponed to a later date.

Meanwhile, veteran actress Sripriya, a core committee member of Makkal Needhi Maiam, has also voiced her support for Kamal over fellow actor-politician Rajinikanth, saying that she joined hands with Kamal as the views held by Rajinikanth on various issues did not resonate with her.
