Kamal Haasan to attend gram sabha in Kanchi village today
An ardent advocate of gram sabhas, Makkal Needhi Maiam party president Kamal Haasan is set to attend one such meeting in Kancheepuram district on Tuesday.

Party sources said the actor-politician will attend the gram sabha at Kaliyampoondi village as an observer.Â
Kamal had been encouraging citizens to take active part in democracy by calling for their participation in gram sabhas ever since the inception of his party.
Earlier on Monday, Kamal acknowledged the legacy of late actor Sivaji Ganesan on his birth anniversary and visited the latter’s residence in T Nagar. Kamal interacted with Sivaji’s family members, including his sons Prabhu and Ramkumar. The 63-year-old also tweeted in praise of the thespian, calling him the father of acting.Â
Meanwhile, MNM’s ‘Maiam Whistle app’ has won two awards at the recently-held Smarties India 2018 conducted by the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA). The application bagged awards in the social impact/not for profit and location-based categories.
Issues faced by people across TN on a day-to-day basis and requests to solve them are being submitted on the application. Petitions are then handed over to the respective district collectors and other government officials seeking suitable action, MNM office bearers said.
