Police said Kumar alias Rajkumar (40) and his friend S Satish, 31, had both approached Harun, 58, from Muslim Street in Kangeyam with an offer to give him Rs 16,000 worth fake currencies in exchange for Rs 8,000.
“While Harun was waiting at Kangeyam old Kottai Road near a slipper shop, both Satish and Raj Kumar came in a two wheeler to exchange the fake currencies. However, Harun with the help of his friend Manimaran and few others caught them red handed and brought the duo to the Kangeyam police station,” police said.
During an inquiry, Raj Kumar and Satish confessed to have sourced the currency notes from P Saminathan, 33, working as a textile designer in a spinning mill, from Vadugapalayam.
Further inquiries revealed that the trio had printed the counterfeit currency on their own for circulation. The police seized a printer, lap top and scanner used to print notes, besides a two wheeler.
Police added that they are also inquiring about the total value of the counterfeit currency they had circulated in the market and also if anyone else were part of their gang. Police booked the trio under IPC section 489 for possession of fake currencies and further investigations are on.
