Talking to reporters in Dindigul on Saturday, he said everybody has their own opinion to express and every party has its right to criticise others. But it was condemnable that the ruling AIADMK had denied permission for the DMK to organise public meetings against the state government.  To overcome this and challenging the denial, the DMK had moved the court. “It is unjust that a party has to approach court to obtain permission for holding a public meeting.” As for as Tamil Nadu government was concerned, he said “It is obedient to commands from the Union government.”

Doubting the efficiency of state police, whom he said were considered on a par with the renowned Scotland Yard police, he asked why they had not yet arrested BJP national secretary H Raja, who talked ill of the force in Pudukkottai. “This is despite forming of three special teams,” he added.

He further asked whether the hands of the policemen were tied up as Raja called on Governor Banwarilal Purohit a few days ago. “Both the state and Union governments are answerable for the police inaction,” he said.

In the recent past, statues of Periyar EV Ramasamy, founder of Dravidar Kazhagam and BR Ambedkar, Father of the Indian Constitution, had been desecrated and he charged that the BJP and the RSS outfit were behind such acts. He also welcomed the Supreme Court’s verdict allowing entry to women of all ages at Sabarimala temple.
