According to a press release from SR, 9 EMU services on the Chennai Beach – Chengalpattu line and 8 on the Chennai Beach – Velachery section would be cancelled.

All these services were introduced on January 1, 2018, in view of the bus fare hike.

Although railway officials did not attribute a reason for the cancellation, it has been reliably learnt that poor patronage had compelled them to act.

However, SR has increased connectivity to Kancheepuram by extending a train service and introducing a new train between Kancheepuram and Chennai Beach with stoppages at all stations in both directions.

Train number 40561 departing Chennai Beach at 6.40 pm and arriving at Chengalpattu around 8.30 pm would be extended to Kancheepuram from September 30. The train will leave Chengalpattu at 8.45 pm and arrive in Kanchipuram at 9.40 pm.

A new passenger special, to be run from October 1, will depart Kancheepuram at 6.10 am and arrive in Chengalpattu at 6.55 am. The train will leave Chengalpattu at 7.10 am and reach Chennai Beach at 8.55 am.

Chengalpattu – Chennai Beach (Train Number 40568 on weekdays and Train Number 40660 on Sundays) leaving Chengalpattu at 8.50 pm will be partially cancelled between Chengalpattu and Tambaram and operated as a passenger special between Tambaram and Chennai Beach from September 30.

Accordingly, the departure time of Train Number 40804 between Kancheepuram and Chennai Beach at Chengalpattu has been changed to 8.35 pm instead of 8.25 pm.

Meanwhile,  several  EMU services between MMC and Avadi, Arakkonam, Pattabiram, Tiruttani, Sullurpeta would be cancelled on September 30 (Sunday) owing to track renewal work in Chennai - Arakkonam and Chennai - Gudur sections.
