AIADMK will go it alone in 2019 elections: Thambidurai

Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai on Friday reiterated in Karur that the AIADMK will face the upcoming general elections alone and charged that the recent statements made by Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan hinted that the BJP would ally with the DMK.

Thambidurai said that it was MGR, who played a key role in making late M Karunanidhi the Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin owes it to MGR.

Stalin should participate in the MGR centenary celebrations organised by the AIADMK, he said.  “The recent statements made by Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan reveal that the BJP has decided to ally with the DMK,” Thambidurai said.

Stating that the AIADMK will never ally with the Congress, Thambidurai said the party will face the Lok Sabha polls alone. “Amma gave us the strength to face the elections alone and win it too.”

Meanwhile, Thambidurai said that the MGR centenary celebrations was not a political function but a government event and the DMK should participate in the programme.

Responding to Thambidurai, Pon Radhakrishnan said it looks as though Thambidurai will contest alone in all the 40 seats and noted that the AIADMK is yet to announce its stand on the polls.

“Even on Thursday, State ministers met the Union finance and defence minister and there is every possibility for the BJP to ally with the AIADMK,” a senior AIADMK functionary claimed.

“Thambidurai is correct and our party leaders MGR and Amma had taught us to fight the elections alone. After conducting so many IT raids and with agencies like Central Bureau of Intelligence and Enforcement Directorate working overtime targeting Tamil Nadu ministers, the BJP is losing a potential ally partner in the State,” said the functionary on the condition of anonymity.
