The deceased persons, identified as S Nagesh (25) from Kothapalli and N Manjunath (35) from Bagalur had gone into the tank, which had chemical effluent waste discharged during the manufacture of batteries.Â
Police said that Nagesh opened the lid and he was engulfed by the poisonous gas and collapsed into the tank. On seeing him, Manjunath tried to rescue Ngaesh, but, he also inhaled the poisonous gas and died on the spot.Â
On receiving information, the fire and rescue personnel rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies. Meanwhile, the family members of the duo gathered at the industrial unit. They resorted to a protest and refused to allow the family members to remove the dead bodies from the spot. Â
Police said that the battery manufacturing unit has engaged workers after the electric motor to pump out effluent water became defunct. Both the persons did not use any safety guard.
After talks by the police, the family members allowed the police to clear the bodies. The bodies were sent to Hosur Government Hospital for the post-mortem on Thursday.Â
The Bagalur police have registered a case and further inquiries are on. A few days ago, two migrant workers from Jharkhand died inhaling poisonous gas, while cleaning a chemical effluent tank of a textile printing mill, in Erode district.Â
