Tamilisai barred from entering Sengottai
Mild commotion prevailed at Sengottai in Tirunelveli district on Thursday after the police refused to allow State BJP president Tamilisai Soundararajan, into the town, where an agitation was planned demanding the release of her party cadre arrested in connection with violence during the Chaturthi procession on September 13, citing ban orders.

Violence broke out after a group of Muslims objected to the procession of Lord Vinayagar idol through Keela Pallivasal Street in Sengottai. In a follow-up action, 12 people were arrested.
Meanwhile, Tamilisai Soundararajan, who landed at Thoothukudi airport around noon on Thursday en route to the agitation at Sengottai, was stopped by Superintendent of Police Murali Rambha, who asked her not to violate the prohibitory order and visit Sengottai, and instead organise the protest demonstration at Alangulam, where the police had permitted such events.
A team led by Tirunelveli Superintendent of Police P Arun Sakthi Kumar was deployed at the protest venue in Alangulam to prevent any untoward incidents.
Presiding over the demonstration at Alangulam, Tamilisai appealed to the police to immediately release those arrested in connection with the September 13 incidents, saying that they were only the victims of violence. Several persons were injured and a portion of the idol of Lord Vinayagar was damaged during the violence on that day. Caste Hindus were being attacked and her party won’t tolerate such acts, she said. Further, Tamilisai said she has the courage to go ahead, violating the order and enter Sengottai.Â
Terming both the AIADMK and DMK as ‘anti Hindu’, she said the BJP would come to power in Tamil Nadu to safeguard the interests of the Hindus. She also stressed the need to lift the ban on the Tamirabarani Maha Pushkaram programme at the Kurukkuthurai Thaipoosam mandapam.
