After RK Nagar win, bypolls to be big test for TTV camp

After tasting victory in the fiercely fought RK Nagar bypolls, the rebel Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhgam (AMMK) is now focussing on the two Assembly seats that fell vacant post the death of DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi (Tiruvarur) and AIADMK strongman AK Bose (Tiruparankundram).

AMMK deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran will tour both constituencies on October 7 and 10 and address the public, said a statement from the party on Thursday.

The party office bearers and functionaries have started collecting the details of voters and the issues that will strike a chord with the public, according to AMMK sources.

After the announcement of the bypoll date, the second stage of election-related works such as candidate selection and booth management will be taken up, sources said.

“Yes. We are ready for polls any time. Our deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran is the only leader who is drawing crowds, particularly youngsters. Come and see his tour campaigns and you will be surprised to see the greetings extended to our leader,” said Sukumar Babu, organising secretary, AMMK.

Both of these public meetings are expected to trigger political debate at the State and central level. “No one expected the rude shock given to the ruling AIADMK and the DMK. This time it will be a bigger shock for the DMK in Tiruvarur and the AIADMK in Tiruparankundram,” the former AIADMK strongman noted.

We will ensure that one of them lose their deposit as it happened in RK Nagar. Both the DMK and the AIADMK are worried about us and we will continue to target both the parties, he said, adding that more public friendly campaigns will be taken up by the AMMK to connect with women and youngsters.
