Vellore plans to procure 900 tonnes of green gram
Vellore District Collector on Wednesday inaugurated the procurement process at the district regulated market on Officers Line.

During the inauguration, Collector SA Raman said that the district has planned to procure 900 tonnes of green gram in 2018-19 kharif season.
“The scheme operational under the Central Government’s price support scheme for farmers, planned to procure a total of 4,625 tonnes of green gram from Vellore, Madurai, Salem, Namakkal and Dharmapuri districts. Vellore’s target was 900 tonnes,” he said.
Urging the farmers to utilise the scheme, he said that a maximum of 750 kg would be procured from individual farmers per day and they would be paid a support price of Rs 69.75 per kg, which was higher than the market price.
Farmers willing to join the scheme should submit copies of bank passbooks, Aadhaar card, chitta and adangal to the nearest regulated market.
The Collector further added that chitta and adangal records were sought to prevent role of middlemen.
The procurement would continue till October end.
During the inauguration, Collector’s PA (agriculture) Girish Chandra Singh and agriculture department DD (State schemes) Mahendra Pratap Dikshit were present.
