Sources said that the Tamil Nadu police arrested Kalidas (48) last week. When he was produced for remand extension on Monday, Q branch has asked for his custody and the court granted one-day custody, sources said.
Kalidas, who is believed to be the mainstay behind the People’s War Group in Tamil Nadu, is facing at least 17 cases in Tamil Nadu and several other cases in Karnataka.
Kalidas, also known as Kalidasaraja alias Sekhar, is said to be the commander of the People’s Liberation Army in the tri-junction. There are several cases registered against him in Dharmapuri and Ramanathapuram, his native district, for possessing and storing arms. TN police had been hunting for him for the last two decades before he was caught by the Kerala police last year in Palakkad. It was believed Kalidas had been providing arms training to fresh recruits.
