Caution signal hoisted in 2 places
Distant cautionary signal has been hoisted at VO Chidambaranar Port, Thoothukudi following a low pressure forecast from the Indian Meteorological Department on Thursday.

According to sources, a depression has formed over the east central Bay of Bengal and it lay centred around 530 km east–southeast of Kalingapatnam and around 440 km east–southeast of Puri. However, activities continued as usual at the port.
Fishermen were advised to be cautious while venturing into the sea. Fishing operations were carried out off Thoothukudi coast. Among the total fleet of 240 mechanised boats, 84 boats ventured into sea on Thursday, sources from Thoothukudi Fishing Harbour Management Wing said.
Similar trend prevailed at Pamban in Ramanathapuram district, where also distant cautionary signal was hoisted. Regional Deputy Director of Fisheries, Ramanathapuram, when contacted, said, fishing operations were carried out as usual. “If the weather turns bad and not conducive for sailing, fishing will be restricted,” he added.
The Regional Deputy Director said that there was no warning indicated for fishermen of Kannyakumari district.
