9 more areas in Vellore prone to rain woes
With the north-east monsoon expected to begin in a fortnight in Tamil Nadu, the Vellore district administration has planned elaborate measures to reduce the damage due to rains to the maximum extent.

Officials told DT Next on Monday, that 82 locations in the district were affected during the last season. However, a district wide survey conducted by officials revealed that nine more locations in addition to the 82 spots might be affected this year, they said.
Collector SA Raman, who reviewed the monsoon preparedness, instructed that officials of all civic bodies should be constantly updated about the rains so that they would be ready to tackle any situation. Steps have been taken to stock adequate number of sand bags and chain-saws to remove fallen trees from highways.
Also, orders have been issued to strengthen bunds of tanks and lakes and to desilt channels to ensure that no breaches occurred smooth flow to all water-bodies, they added. Similarly, instructions have also been issued to officials concerned to remove encroachments on all channels and water bodies, officials added.
