Speaking to students at the Christian Medical College in Vellore, Kamal said had he made the move into politics 40-odd years ago he would have worked to combat the misuse of power and public money.
He said that people must participate more proactively and it is not that they should engage only once every five years.
Kamal added that he no longer feared any repercussion as he takes on those in power. He said he had been hesitant to get involved as his reputation could be affected but he does not have any such reservations now.Â
The 63-year-old urged the people to repose their trust in him and said that he will work for the welfare of the people for the rest of his life. Even if he were to make more movies, it would only be with the aim to fund his political party, he said.
The Makkal Needhi Maiam president urged youngsters to be conscious of political developments and even take the plunge into politics if they want to.
He said that being proactive is essential for change and that must come from the youth.Â
As politics has an overarching influence on our life, any change at the grassroots-level such as weeding out corruption must be spurred by the action of the people, mainly the youth, who harbour potential for change, Kamal said.
