    The Principal Secretary of the Public Works Department inspected the spot where the new regulator across the Kollidam in Mukkombu (Upper Anicut) here on Saturday.

    Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, who inspected the collapsed Kollidam regulator on August 24, had said that a new regulator at both the southern and northern sides of Kollidam river would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 410 crore.

    He also said that an expert committee was established for the construction of the new regulators. Accordingly, the southern arm (side) having 45 vents was allocated a fund of Rs 325 crore, while the northern arm having 10 vents was sanctioned Rs 85 crore.

    The eight-member expert committee, which comprised of experts from private companies, visited the collapsed structure at Mukkombu on Friday and also the  spot where the proposed new regulator is to come up.

    On Saturday, the PWD principal secretary S K Prabakar visited the spot along with the expert committee which conducted a soil test.

    The team also studied the water level and the soil strength. The expert committee also inspected the temporary works carried out in the collapsed structure.

    Later, the official said that the draft plan for the proposed regulator was being readied with the support of the expert team. The plan would soon be sent to the State government, following which the works would commence, he said.
