They pointed out that all construction works in Puducherry was severely hit due to lack of sand and the construction workers were jobless. At the same time, poor bullock cart workers who earned their livelihood by quarrying sand from the river beds were also rendered jobless as the government banned sand quarrying and posted armed police on guard on the banks of the river here.
Meanwhile, on the other bank of the same river, the Tamil Nadu government arranged a sand quarry for the bullock cart workers and issued permit for them only from that state. Hearing them, the Chief Minister immediately consulted with Revenue Minister Shajahan and assured them to find a solution on this issue before September 17.
