Jaya probe panel set to summon OPS, Thambidurai
The Justice A Arumughasamy enquiry commission, set up to investigate the death of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa is set to send summons to top ministers in the ruling AIADMK. Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Health Minister Vijay Baskar and Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Thambidurai will be sent summons.

The commission has intensified the probe process ahead of its term coming ending in October. Jayalalithaa’s former aide VK Sasikala’s camp has been urging the commission to call the three top AIADMK leaders as they claim that the trio was present through the course of Jayalalithaa’s hospitalisation and received regular updates on the condition of the deceased CM.Â
The enquiry commission is also set to call UK expert Dr Richard Beale and doctors from Singapore who had advised doctors at the Apollo hospitals here on the course of treatment to be followed for Jayalalithaa. The doctors overseas will provide their testimonies through video conferencing.Â
Former Chennai city police commissioner S George had recently appeared before Justice Arumughasamy commission. It was the second time that George had appeared before the justice after summons was issued to him.
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami set up the inquiry commission headed by retired High Court judge Arumughasamy to probe Jayalalithaa’s death in September 2017. Jayalalithaa spent 75 days at the hospital following her admission on September 22, 2016, after she took ill at her Poes Garden residence. She passed away on December 5, 2016. George was the Chennai police commissioner at the time of her demise.Â
