EPS rules out tax cut on fuel, puts onus on union government
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday blamed the Central government for the rising fuel prices. Speaking to media persons at the Salem airport, he said, “Only the Centre can reduce the prices and not the State government.”

Stating that his government has been looking to increase its revenue sources for implementing various schemes, the Chief Minister said, “We will nevertheless consider taking steps to bring relief to the public.” Responding to corruption charges levelled against his cabinet colleagues Vijaya Baskar and SP Velumani, Palaniswami stated, “One can be considered an offender only if charges are proven and not otherwise.”
He said the AIADMK government has been doing very well, but vested interests are attempting to spoil its good name. “As all their attempts failed, they have taken to such tactics and are spreading false charges. There is no truth in the allegations. We haven’t received any complaints,” Palaniswami said.
When asked about Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker and AIADMK propaganda secretary M Thambi Durai terming the CBI raids as being perpetuated by the BJP-led Central government to tarnish the image of the AIADMK government, the CM said, “It may be his own opinion and not that of the State government.” He added that the State can get the required funds to implement projects only by maintaining a cordial relationship with the Centre.
On Karnataka constructing a dam across the Cauvery at Mekedatu, Palaniswami said that Supreme Court has clearly stated that the dam shouldn’t be built without TN’s permission.
“Despite storing water in its dams, Karnataka refused to share it when Tamil Nadu suffered a severe drought. So, if they build a dam at Mekedatu, it will further affect our State. Dams are being built near Palaru and it will be taken up legally,” he said.
