Lok Adalats award total compensation of Rs 10.63 crore in Vellore district
More than 6,500 pending cases related to compensation for land acquisition, motor vehicle claims, and defaulted bank loans were settled in Lok Adalat proceedings held in 11 locations in Vellore district on Saturday, with the litigants being awarded a total compensation of Rs 10.63 crore.

Vellore district judge (in charge) Vetriselvi said that 6,655 cases were taken up, of which verdicts were given in 2,697 cases.
A similar exercise conducted last year resulted in 2,278 cases being taken up and a total compensation of Rs 16.86 crore being awarded, she added.
At Vellore, the Lok Adalat upon hearing two land acquisition cases from Vaniyambadi awarded Rs 98.50 lakh as compensation to the litigants.
Lok Adalat is an alternative dispute redressal mechanism, where disputes and cases pending in the court of law or at pre-litigation stage are settled amicably.
