The incident occurred when the once strongman of Madurai, clad in a black shirt and white dhoti, as a mark of respects towards his departed father, was on his way to pay his respect at the late DMK chief M Karunanidhi’s memorial.

Suddenly, two of his supporters accidentally pushed and fell on him from behind because of which Alagiri stumbled in his steps. He immediately turned around and slapped the two. This, however, created minor tension among Alagairi’s supporters.

Interestingly, the silent march was more like an election campaign as drums were beaten and his supporters were seen dancing to them.

High-decibel whistles were also blown by the supporters. Many supporters also visited Karunanidhi’s burial spot without even having been part of the march. Supporters coming from all possible directions also led to chaotic situation at the memorial.
