    AMMK will disappear after assembly by-elections, predicts Panneerselvam

    Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam on Saturday lambasted the founder of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) TTV Dhinakaran and said his party will disappear after the upcoming by-elections in Tiruvarur and Thiruparankundram.

    Speaking to media persons after participating in the 303rd birth anniversary celebrations of freedom fighter Poolithevan at Nerkattumseval in Tirunelveli district, Panneerselvam said the ruling AIADMK would emerge victorious in both the constituencies. He said that not even a single word uttered by Dhinakaran was true and that people were all aware of it. The deputy chief minister also said there are chances of a coalition led by the AIADMK being formed ahead of the general elections.

    Pannerselvam recalled the significant role played by Poolithevan in the revolt against the British.

     The State government has been organising programmes every year to honour the contribution of freedom fighters. 

    As a tribute to the freedom fighter, the government has declared ‘Nerkattumseval’, his birthplace, as a tourism site. Moreover, funds to the tune of Rs 50 lakh has been set aside for creating infrastructure at the site, he said. 

    Further, he said stringent action would be taken against those cutting trees in the Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve (KMTR). Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare VM Rajalakshmi, Minister for Information and Publicity Kadambur C Raju, Forest Minister Dindigul C Srinivasan, Minister for Handlooms and Textiles OS Manian and others were present.
